Zoning is the process of dividing land in a municipality into zones (e.g. residential, industrial) in which certain land uses are permitted or prohibited. Zones within the Town of Crossfield are set out in the Land Use Bylaw.
The land use designation of a property specifies the:
- Purpose of the land;
- Permitted and discretionary uses of the land; and
- General regulations including minimum requirements such as parcel size and setbacks, maximum requirements such as building heights and number of buildings, and any other special considerations.
Landowners who wish to change their current land use designation are required to apply for a land use redesignation. Redesignation is the process of changing the designation of land as zoned in the Town of Crossfield Land Use Bylaw.
