Town of Crossfield Land Use Bylaw Update
Project Overview
The Town of Crossfield is working with ISL Engineering and Land Services Ltd. (ISL) to review and update the Town’s Land Use Bylaw (LUB) and make minor amendments to the Town’s Municipal Development Plan (MDP). The LUB is an important document that shapes how our community grows and develops.
What is the purpose of a Land Use Bylaw?
- Describes the regulations and rules about how land and buildings can be used.
- These rules outline things such as the size of properties, the height of buildings, and the distances that buildings need to be from roads or other buildings.
- Outlines the process for how the Town and community makes decisions on proposed developments.
Why is the Town updating its LUB?
The current LUB was originally adopted in 2018 and has had some small changes over the years. Now, the whole document is being updated to make the regulations easier to understand and make sure they follow legislation set by the Province of Alberta.

Project Timeline
The project began in June 2026 and is expected to be completed by March 2027.

This summer, town residents are invited to provide feedback through a combination of in-person and online opportunities.
Your feedback will be used to inform draft changes to the LUB, which will be shared with the public in early 2027.

The Town and ISL will be completing the following steps to update the LUB:
- Reviewing the content and structure of the current LUB, focusing on sections that may be outdated based on current community needs, development trends, and recent changes to local bylaws and provincial laws and legislation.
- Gathering feedback from the community through Round 1 Engagement to inform changes to the LUB.
- Preparing draft changes to the LUB in a thorough step-by-step process
- Presenting the proposed changes to the community and gathering input through Round 2 Engagement in early 2027
- Presenting the draft LUB to Council for consideration and approval.
